Organization

The Corrie ten Boom House Foundation was established in 1987 in order to operate the former residence of the Ten Boom family as a museum. On April 15, 1988, the mayor of Haarlem opened the museum. Since then, the museum has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Board

The Corrie ten Boom House Foundation has a board consisting of members from the United States and the Netherlands:

  • Michael D. Evans, President
  • Frits Nieuwstraten, Vice President and Treasurer

Volunteers

The museum is run by a director who is an authorized Dutch member of the board. The director and all of the tour guides are volunteers. Volunteers do not receive compensation for their work, but they can receive reimbursement of expenses. Members of the board do not receive a compensation for their activities. Besides a staff of enthusiastic volunteers, the museum also employs one part-time co-worker who perform administrative duties.

revenues

There is no entrance fee for visitors because the foundation wants the museum available to all as an 'open house'. Visitors may make a voluntary donation. The foundation receives no funding from the government or from any large charitable organization. The income of the foundation comes from donations, gifts, and proceeds from the sale of books and other items. The shop space is leased to an independent businessman who operates a jewelry store and may use the name Ten Boom for the store during the rental period. Rent from this lease is also income for the foundation.

Other activities

Interested groups throughout the Netherlands can request a visit by a foundation volunteer who is able to give a PowerPoint presentation about the museum and the Ten Boom Family. Volunteers are busy with this endeavor. The foundation has also developed an educational project and outreach program for schools around the Corrie4Kids theme. Key features of this project are the animation DVD of The Hiding Place and the magazine 'Corrie!'
